9th Annual National Institute of Animal Agriculture (NIAA) Antibiotic Symposium
October 15, 2019 @ 8:00 am - October 17, 2019 @ 8:00 pm
Event Description
For the past eight years, a national dialogue focused on the use of antibiotics in food animals and the science surrounding antimicrobial resistance has been hosted by NIAA. Antibiotic stewardship and responsible use of antibiotics continue to be a top priority for the animal agriculture industry.
This year’s 9th Annual Antibiotic Symposium from the National Institute for Animal Agriculture, in collaboration with the Iowa State University-based National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE) in Ames, Iowa, will expand its focus to include not only scientific updates on antimicrobial resistance, but how research, technology and innovation continue to impact what we know, and why communication of science facts to consumers has been less than effective.
As the public is bombarded with inaccurate statistics, misreported study results and opinions which align more with agendas than hard science, the Symposium will include an added feature of how to take that knowledge to the public in an effective and positive manner.
Developed in partnership with the Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, this collaborative conversation will provide space to discuss and learn new communication strategies to shift consumer attitudes in the future.
Tomorrow’s responsible antibiotic use will be shaped by consistent, effective communication of scientific collaboration, and the commitment of the animal agriculture industry and its allies to progress, best practices and transparency in ways that build public trust.
